Hi there, my dad recommended I buy frontline plus off ebay for my cats to keep the fleas at bay. He uses an american supllier through ebay (they have their own shop etc) however my friend seems to think this is illegal? Anyone know if she is right?

I guess it may be covered by some EU directive, depending what chemicals are in them (lots of things like garden weedkillers, etc are). You could always email the supplier and ask if they are licenced for selling in the EU.

I personally wouldn't risk buying anything with chemicals of ebay. Why risk the health of the cat for the sake of a few quid.

I *think* that there might be two different versions of Frontline - a strong 'perscription' strength one and a lower dose.

I had heard that Frontline was only available from the vets but I've seen it/a version of it for sale from Pets at Home thus my above suspicions.

Maybe you could try asking the question over on the pets board of MSE?

I have bought Synflex liquid glucosamine supplement (for my old dog) from a US ebay seller and it was fine & cheaper than any UK seller.
My mate bought frontline for her cats from https://www.vetuk.co.uk and it seemed quite cheap?
Might be easier than waiting for stuff to come from US?
    Good luck

  • Frontline is available in quite a few places now so i think they must have 2 strength versions like squee stated. Why not buy it from somewhere like VetUK, they are always well priced, usually much lower than anywhere else. I dont know if they have the particular version you want but worth a check.

There are easy ways to spot fake frontline plus and EPA approved frontline plus.

Thanks folks, vetuk looks very good, i will use that i think :) x

It's my understanding that the Frontline available at Pets at Home is the same as the version on sale at the Vets .... Only certain staff are allowed to seel it from Pets at Home too (I believe the ones who can have to be qualified as a vet or pharmacist).

I'm sure there are 2 types of frontline. One is the original and works by killing any fleas which land on your cat (cheapest). The second is prescription only as it is systemic and cat's dander will kill eggs etc in sleeping areas. I know they are different as one of mine has a reaction to the prescription one.

A note on buying from USA - import duty is due if over £18 paid, not including postage.

    edit: Yep. 2 of them.
