Help with UPVC door

Hi folks, had windows and a door fitted, windows are fine, but on the right hand side of the door (handle side facing from outside) at the bottom there is about a 2mm gap , there is a bit of a draft at the bnottom of the door in the bottom corners , we had them out and the guy moved the bit that holds the cam on the frame which solved the problem apart from you could hardly move the handle so he put it back.

He said he would order a new seal as ours is a low rise door the seal has a gap in it.

Im a bit worried as the original seal is sort of moulded into the frame and the gap outside will still be there.

Ive got a spirit level around the frame and its all plumb apart from where the gap is its about 1.5mm out of the bubble could this be the problem ?

Sorry its a long post !

Sounds as if the door maybe a little off square - corner to corner, heavy seal may help, but then again you could end up with same problem you had when the keeper was adjusted, the handle becomes more difficult to operate
  • when you open the door then push it back up to the frame is the gap between door and frame paralel ie open the door then push door back so that you can see if the edge of door aligns with inner edge of door frame .if the door doesnt align this way it needs refitting

Yeah its what everone else has said, the door or the frame is out of square when he lined it up and the handles went stiff it sounds like he didnt think to move the keeps on the frame to suit the new position of the door!

No all he did was move the keeps on the frame in about 3mm he didnt touch the door at all , this made the door clamp tight to the frame but you could hardly move the handle because it was that stiff.

I went back into the showroom today and they are going to get the chap to ring me on monday, they did mention a thicker seal needed to be fitted would this be ok ?
  • I think what A6 meant was pull the door almost completely closed and check if the gap is parrallel top to bottom, if not then the either the door sash is warped or the door frame is not fitted squarely. Fitting a heavier seal may help but it may also make the lock stiffer to operate. If the door sash is warped then a new sash would be best soloution, if the door frame is not square then refitting the frame correctly would be the best soloution, however neither are as quick, easy and cheap as fitting a heavier seal. Ultimately it's your door and your money that paid for it so you need to decide what you're prepared to accept as a repair.
    ;)

Sorry to be thick whats the sash :o

I just want the best repair possible to swtop the draft at the bottom , but as i havent got a clue what that is thats why i put the question on here :D

EDIT: Yes the gap looks the same when you nearly close the door, its when you click it shut you can see the gap at the bottom, then you pull the handle up to fully close the door and the gap gets smaller but still there just smaller

If possible post up some photos and we will be able to advise you better, to me the door or the frame sounds warped.

The circle marked is where the gap is, i have had my friend look at it with his spirit level and it dosent seem level , the top 2/3 of the right hand side are level but the bottom bit circled seems out a little (not dead cenntre of the bubble) , i think this is the problem ? , but whats the best course of action ?
