Iomega NAS Setup problems

I just bought a 500GB NAS from comet to use for some home use. I've got a PC running Vista, a macbook with Leopard and a BT Home Hub.
First problem is that the drive won't show up on the home hub "Home Network - Devices" page, all the other stuff is there just not that. I have installed the included software on the PC and it seems to find the drive at 169.254.0.1 but when I try to connect using the software, it takes a long time and then nothing appears to have happened. On the macbook, I've opened a terminal and typed findsmb (as per the mac instructions) but can't see anything on there. I've also tried putting the IP address above into my browser but it doesn't seem to like it.
Anybody got any ideas? Does that IP address even look right? I thought it should be 192.168.0.xx to be on the local drive.
Any hints appreciated or else I'll just end up taking this thing back. Shame as I wanted to use it for time machine backups and a bit of shared space.
Ta in advance

I've never used an Iomega NAS before, but generally these types of device can be configured via a browser.
If you open a browser and go to http://169.254.0.1/, do you get to a configuration menu? If so, change the IP address of the device so that it's in the same address range and has the same subnet mask as your PC, Mac, etc. If it permits the use of DHCP, that can be easily be achieved by configuring it to use DHCP as a client. If not you'll need to set it to use a static IP address.
[Edit - I should have read properly - you've tried that! The reason why it won't work is that the PC you are browsing from is on a different subnet. If you change the PC's IP address to, say 169.254.0.2, you should then be able to access it via your browser, then change the NAS IP address, then change the PC's address back.]0 -
Got it sorted in the end. Direct connected the Macbook via ethernet then conneected to the web config page. From there I changed the IP address to be in the 192.168.1.xx range and then re-attached the NAS to the hub.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0
