I didn't go into overdraft yet they've charged

Dear Experts,
Thanks to this website, I've sent off a reclaim unfair charges letter to local Natwest.
I've just noticed, that the recent unpaid D/D for £5.50 (the first default for 2 years) did not actually put me into unauthorised overdraft: even with the charge of £38, I was still £70 in credit balance.
Reading the information from their collections dept - it says 'if we think you may go into overdraft'.
I'm really being robbed - and I'm on income support.
If I was mugged, I could get a policeman.
So - it looks like porridge and milk for me till the next benefit cheque.
Thanks for the format letter - at least I feel someone sees it's unfair.

Did you have a cheque that showed on your balance but wasn't actually cleared when the d/d was bounced??
