How Long Can It Take for JSA To Be Paid?

Hi,

I registered for JSA on the 9th of April, checked my account yesterday and still hadn't been paid, even thought it was exactly two weeks since my claim. I understand that there's a lot of unemployed people at the moment, which might slow things down. How long can I be made to wait? I really need the money!

Also, if the bank charges me for direct debits that go out because I don't have thise money, would there be any way I could claim it back?

Usually it can be up to 3 weeks but i would ring again and be polite just asking if they know when you will be paid.If you can get to the nearest job centre then use their phone to enquire saving your phone bill as they may keep you on hold for up to 45 minutes.

I agree with Max2009, it took roughly 3 weeks for my hubby to get his first JSA payment, we rang people who we had DD's with and explained the situation and that we would be cancelling the direct debits so no charges were incurred and paid our bills using our debit card when the JSA finally arrived and reset up the DD's again.

I put my claim in on 7th March, and got my first payment 6th April. Was annoyed at first then I realised that by leaving it until 6th April, it came in a new tax year so I wouldn't have to pay tax on it.

So yes, it can take 3-4 weeks, but it should all be back-dated properly.
