18185 being blocked by BT

For some reason I keep getting a pre-recorded message when I try to use the 18185 dialing service, the message says if you are on the BT Basic, Light User or In Contact Plus plans then you cannot use opt-out dialing services, and then the phone call ternimates, I wouldn't mind but I'm not on any of those plans, I'm on the Unlimited Evenings & Weekend plan.

Has anyone else had this problem, how did you overcome it, I've tried contacting BT via email but they don't seem to want to answer.

    Hi del1001

If you are on the Unlimited Evening and Weekends Plan then you should have no problems making outgoing calls. If you would like me to check your account then please reply to my PM with your details.

    Cheers

I'd just like to publicly thank Linda, Jackie and the team at BT for resolving the issue I had with my phoneline, it was nice that someone from a mega-sized company took the time & trouble to sort out one individuals problem, much appreciated :)

For anyone that's interested, the problem was being caused by a "tag" being left on my line from years back by a previous occupant.

    Hi Le73Uq86Uv

Yea I will explain for you. In Contact Plus provides a lifeline telephone service at very low cost, however this service is no longer available. It was ideal for people who needed to keep in contact but didn't make many calls. The service gave normal incoming call facilities.
This was replaced with BT Basic. Customers who are in receipt of specific state benefits could be eligible to take up BT Basic.

    Cheers

  • Could BT give an absolute assurance that 18185 (and the alternatives) won't be blocked from ALL phone packages at some stage in the future?

Why should such a stupid anti-competitive and unfair assurance be made? For fairness and freedom of choice BT should be free to be as abusive and predatory and selective as leeching competitors.

Rather than calling for BT to continue to support it you should be calling for competitors to be blocked from blocking.
