I am a serving member of the Royal Air Force who is due to do a 4 month tour of Afganistan in a couple of months time.
I have to wear glasses and as such needed to get an updated eye prescription test done for the glasses i take out to aganistan with me.
I (lots of I's here !!) went into my local specsavers to get a test done which was done ok , however when i asked the optician to fill in a military form with my prescription details i was told it would cost an extra £10 to do this!!!!!!!
i think its shocking that they can charge this amount and do not see why they have to do it or even if its legal to do it??
vent over!!
thanks
steve

It's more work than they have to do normally & so extra costs. It's unusual, I've never heard of it before.
Presuemably you're claiming the cost of the eye test back from the system anyway so just aid it to the claim.0 -
yes but the station is querying it as on the recipt its down as an accessory.
plus it was only 4 bits of info needed on the form , took her all of 30 seconds to do.0 -
why should you get it for free from a high street stores? The rest of us have to pay for prescriptions and it's not as if you are getting your eyes tested on the NHS or at a military medical facility!0

Couldn't you have filled it in yourself getting the details from the full prescription?July Win: Nokia 58000

It's clearly unreasonable to charge £10 for paperwork which took 30 seconds to fill in.
That's an hourly rate of £1200.00!
OP - if it's being queried then I'd advise them to clarify with the branch that it was for the form that they wanted filled in. Or ask the branch to clarify it in writing and post it to you to give to your station. At least then the issue of it being an 'accessory' can't be questioned.0 -
I would also suggest possibly writing to the head office if no luck at the local level, as to my mind any charges for filling in forms should be clearly stated as such on the receipt - it wouldn't be hard for it to have line for "additional paperwork" on their computer, which would be much more accurate for both the opticians accountants, and the customers accountants/job.
Hope you get it sorted ok.0 -

The OP wasn't getting a free eye test, they were asking for the optician to complete a military form for the purpose of taking out to Afghanistan and querying a £10 charge to be made just to fill in this form.0 -
thanks for the replies so far.
im not questioning the charge for the eye test at all, i am querying the 10 pounds i was charged for the optician to write less than a full lines worth of writing on an a4 piece of paper!!
i have sent specsavers an email via there website and they have relied by just copying and pasting what i sent to them with no other comment!!0
