Does anyone know the up-to-date rules on this?

Last time I drove as a learner I had a qualified driver as well as passengers in the car ... a long time ago!

I can't find anything on the DVLA site, just that you must have a quilified driver who has held a valid driving licence for over 3 years and has not had too much to drink!

Anyhelp appreciated .... thanks icon7.gif

They need to be over 21 too!

But other than that you can have as many people as you like, as long as it isn't breaking any of the other rules like young children have to be in booster seats etc

I think now they have to be with someone over the age 21, held a valid licence for 3 years and thats about it. So basically the same as you said. I am sure you can carry toher passengers as well, I know you can take passengers on your driving lessons

Oh yeah ... forgot the over 21 bit!

So, that means that if either O/H or myself have a qualified driver in the car ... we can drive with the kids in the car ... provided youngest is in a booster type seat thingy? Wouldn't do it myself, but O/H is very good, just hasn't got round to getting his licence .... sods law always rears his ugly head everytime he books his test

Is there anywhere that states this officially?

    Thanks Juno!

    Thanks hun,

That is what I wasn't sure of ... the passengers in proper driving lessons are 17+ ... didn't know what the rules were for under 16's!

No you can even take your kids on your driving lessons, my mate started taking hers so she could get used to the distractions

Things were much more fun before that came in. I passed my test two months after I wa 17 and my friend (still learning) was insured on his Dad's 3-litre Granada (we're talking 1978 here!).
So we used to take that out - he'd drive (somewhat erratically) and I'd instruct - and cruise around Bournemouth trying to look cool (and a bit like The Sweeney). So much more refined that today's boy racers ;)
    Can I help?

    Something that always intrigued me.

On your test, you could have upto 4 people in the car.
    Yourself
    Examiner
A friend/relative/driving instructor if you wanted.
    An onlooker watching the Examiner.

    Cosy!
