Vista Password Help

A friend of mine has a laptop running Vista, for various reasons he deleted his sons user account as he no longer wanted him using the laptop however his son has managed to get into the computer (I'm assuming by logging in as an administrator) and has passworded the whole laptop!!

The laptop now asks for a password before you even get to the login screen. Luckily my friends son is a bit dim and used his usual password so my friend can still get into the laptop - he now wants to change this password so that his son cannot access the laptop at all.

How does he change this password and once it's changed how can he stop his son from doing the same thing again?

  • Go to control panel, user accounts. You can change password or whateve there.

I have a friend using Vista who uses the parental controls to limit the things her kids can do and when they can do it on the pc. They have no ability to change anything without the administrators authorisation.

It's not a user account password - it's a bios password - you need the password to start up the laptop before it loads the operating system.

Think we've sorted it now - have gone into the bios setup and changed the password there so hopefully the little *** won't be able to change anything now!

Goodness what a naughty little chap.

    Glad it is sorted
