I was thinking I would save time with installing games but not the case

About 8 weeks ago, I backed up my music files (291 hours), about 200 photos and The Sims2 files (21.6 gB) onto a portable storage device.

Then last week, my PC didn't work. Found someone with a Vista disc and had to start all over again. I have uploaded the music and photos without problems.

Now I have uploaded The Sims2 files. I realised that the latest expansion pack isn't there, so found the relevant disc and tried to install it. All I get is a message saying "This product requires an installed copy of The Sims2. Please insert The Sims2 disc'

WHAT!!!! There are already the files for The Sims2 you stupid PC. It takes bloody forever for installing The Sims2. Not a happy bunny!

Could someone please tell me how on earth do I get my PC to recognise there are 21.6gB worth of Sims2 files on the PC without me wasting my weekend off installing the discs. Plus I don't know where all of the discs are and which order I suppose to install them!

Any help will be useful.

Sims2 is a program. Programs have to properly installed because they have to do things like writing stuff to the windows registry. You can't just move the files around and hope they might work.

The above post is correct - you can't just move the files to the disk and expect Windows to recognise them as a program. The data itself may be there, however the registry values that tie the program into the OS will not be - this is what the install process does.

You will probably, however, be able to reinstall the programs and then put your data in the relevant folders which should ensure you still have all your saves etc.
