Alarm Dilemma

Hi all

One of my friends is due to exchange soon on their house. She's usually a very honest person so I suppose hence her dilemma.

About a year ago, the house alarm kept going off BF pulled the wire out of the Alarm box and basically she's never gotten round to repairing it. Its a safe area and the house is pretty secure so its just never been a priority.

However, in the sellers list of course she's listed the house as having an alarm and the surveyor never asked or tested the alarm.

Basically should she fix it or tell the new buyers? I've told her not to but its really worrying her in case there's any come back.

What do others think?

The alarm was obviously faulty when your friends bf disconnected the wire to stop the alarm going off.

Morally, your friend should not have listed a non functioning alarm on the seller's list. If it were me I'd get it fixed as I believe in treating other people in the way you would like to be treated yourself & also that what goes around comes around.

If she really doesn't want to get it fixed then at least tell the buyers that she has had problems with the alarm & that it needs looking at.

You say your friend is usually a honest person, so encourage her to continue to be so. The world needs all the honest people it can get. There are way to many of the other kind around.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

It wouldn't be honest to leave it faulty and leave them thinking it's working.

I think they have two choices. Pay someone to fix it (expect at least an £80 bill even if it's something easy to fix) or tell them and accept (or offer) some discount for their incovenience to get it fixed.

Think its best to get it fixed or inform then that it is not working, covers your back that way
