Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse - Worth Getting?

I've got a macbook which, although I'm very happy with in general, I find a little tricky to use when playing in xcode. I'm tempted to get the mighty mouse as it would be able to link without using a USB slot (only 2 of those) and looks very shiny indeed
However, I hear there's a problem with the scroll ball gunking up which although initially treatable eventually becomes too much. So my question is - Is it worth getting one? If not, anyone got any other suggestions, ideally with a couple of programmable buttons so I can access spaces and expose easily.

I think the Mighty Mouse is pricey for what you actually get. Look into other Bluetooth mice from the likes of Logitech, HP and even MicroSoft (intuitively that sounds wrong but the mice are OK) for around closer to have the cost..."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

The Mighty Mouse is very nice indeed, but the scroll ball annoys me greatly. It took just over two years for mine to gunk up to the point at which it won't scroll any more. All Apple need to do is put a little collar around it (like the bottom of mice with a ball) enabling the ball to the removed for cleaning, and it would be problem solved.
As it is, it's pretty annoying to have to replace a perfectly good mouse (or accept a loss in functionality) just because of a design that needs some slight tweaking, but that's life I guess.
Gripes aside, I much prefer the Mighty Mouse to any other mouse I've used and it would be perfect for my needs if only Apple would pull their finger out.
As above, you don't have to use a Mighty Mouse; any Bluetooth mouse will do. You could also have a look on eBay; either for a Mighty Mouse, or if you don't need four buttons, you can pick up a one button Apple wireless mouse for relatively cheaply.0 -
I just bought one from smartbuyeruk.com, for £35.
It works.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I see fleabay have got the MM for around £37 and others (incl a rechargeable HP) from £15. I'd buy the apple like a shot as I do use the 2-finger scrolling a lot on the track pad but just knowing the thing has a flawed design would annoy me a lot...Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0

I does have its advantages in so far as you can scroll in an direction. Squeezing it to activate expose works really well, the laser tracking mechanism is great, and the batteries last quite a long time. I just use the one mouse button, so being able to set it up that way is a nice feature for me.
It can be disassembled in order to completely clean it out, but whether you can put it back together again is another matter entirely.0
