family stay in the lakes

Hi
I am hoping to take my family to the Lakes this October half term. I trained as a teacher in Ambleside years ago, and have some lovely memories of places around there and I would like to take them there now.
I am looking for a three night stay and would like to keep the cost down, Would like to stay in the lakes area and not beyond.
Thanks for any help or ideas

YHA in Ambleside would keep it cheap, or there is now travelodge in Kendal to keep costs down.

  • We are staying for 4 nights in Ambleside in a cottage called Sarum - it sleeps 9 as we are going with family and cost us £350 - between all the adults thats cheap and its got telly's in all rooms and en suite bathrooms, a massive living room, kitchen and bbq and garden area! Very nice and cant wait to get there!

I am staying here at the end of June and can't wait! : http://www.lake-district-yurts.co.uk/index.html

A weekend is £285 in a yurt that sleeps 6, and makes for a different type of holiday if you are feeling adventurous! The yurts are in the grounds of Rydal Hall so right in Wordsworth country and there is an adventure playground onsite for the kids. Lots of lovely walks nearby and windermere just up the road. hth

there are a few YHA's dotted all around the lake district and are great, try keswick rather than ambleside as it tends to be a bit cheaper (and much nicer imo!)

  • Thansk for the ideas so far, I lived in Grasmere for a while too, and loved Rydal water, and know Rydal Hall well. Its making me want to go this weekend!!!
Where exactly was the cottage in Ambleside?
