    If you want to save on buying a car the best way is to get yourself a friend with some knowledge of cars and head up to Wilsons auctions

    Not as cheap at the moment. Everyone is looking a secondhand bargain & prices have crept up

    excellent ta!

    my father in law is a mechanic and he know lots about cars so that would be a good iedea! was a bit worried you would buy a car without driving it and be screwed with a heap of junk.

    starlet actually 12 years old but only 83k on her and in perfect condition - these cars are good for at least 150k so a good few years out of her yet. only reason i selling is need a bigger car for babies!!

    If its 12 YO take it for it's £2000 scrapage from next week;)

    Mind you you have to buy a New car to get this:confused:
    I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

    I think this is an utterly useless scheme and a waste of taxpayers money for the following reasons :-

    1 It has to be done via a 'participating dealer' contributing £1000 therefore the money will just get 'lost' in the price of the new car deal.

    2 How many people who are running a 10+ year old car are in a position to buy a brand new replacement

    no-one says it has to be an expensive car, I changed my 12 year old Peugeot 106 at Christmas, I bought a 2 year old car for £3,500, if I'd been able to buy the equivalent car brand new for £4,500 after the scrappage allowance I'd have gone for it given that the additional monthly payments would have been £30 a month more...................

    I do think the scheme will ultimately fail though.........

  • Do you think there will be people buying up old wrecks in order to get the £2k towards a new car?

    NO

    the rules (not yet confirmed) will be that you have to have owned the car for a least 12 months prior, so you can't just buy an old banger & use that

    Motoring press is very dismissive and I agree with them;

    Gumtree is free and we've sold a car and a motorbike on it. We got a good deal on a new Peugeot from Roadside motors in Lisburn. Very easy to deal with and in fact we got double what we'd hoped for on the trade in but you don't want a Peugeot..........

    My partner recently bought a new car at roadside in Lisburn and the staff there are brilliant! There was a slight mix up with our car which meant we wouldnt have it in time for christmas (even though it was meant to be ready in November) so instead we were given a car that was already made but had a few extras that we didnt really want, we settled that they paid for one extra and we paid for the other (the least expensive out of the two) but we are very happy now with the car and got it before we should have which was good!

    Im hoping to head down there in a few weeks to pick up a second hand car for myself so hoping they do us a good deal again!
