Broken Letterbox front

Hi there
Can anyone help me please? My letterbox front has broken off. DH tells me the "thread" has broken but we don't know how to fix it. I don't have the first idea of how to replace it either.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Replacing them is a very simple job, what type of door is it?0

Replacing it is fairly simple (I'm doing mine tomorrow!). Take the bit thats broken into your DIY shop and match the size. I have to get mine from a small retailer as the ones from the main DIY stores dont fit. The whole unit seems huge and you simply hacksaw it down to fit the depth of the door (mine comes in 2 halves- out side and inside fflap IYKWIM), slide it into the letterbox hole and do the screws up. Mine is a PVC door and the unit costs me about £20. If anyone has any other ideas I'm sure they will be along soon. Good luckMy mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely.

Hi there, thanks for your replies, I appreciate them
I don't know what kind of door it is I'm afraid. It's a Upvc one I think. We got it fitted at the same time we got the windows done.
Are you saying I need to take out my entire letterbox? It's just the front bit that's fallen down. The whole front lid isn't quite off but it's fallen over to the side, hence husband saying it's the thread.Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
If the threaded stud has broken you can buy new lengths of studding and just screw them in. Study the thing for a while and it should become apparent how it comes to pieces.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Ask your door supplier if they can supply you with one check the price first though. My door was to old for a replacement and just went to local hardware and did as above.0 -

Hi there
That's just too funny for words. The guys over on the Techie Board had one helluva time with me last night trying to coach me with XBox Live. I'm a complete nonsense with technology.
It's just a run of the mill letterbox. The front lifts out towards you when putting letter through the letterbox. It's not a push in type of letterbox. I don't even think I'd be any good at posting a link to something similar but I might tryGrocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
Fletch,
I googled letterboxes and came up with this site. It's a bit like a trainspotter's website but for letterboxes. It is obvious, that the man who runs this site is totally passionate about letterboxes. One of these letterboxes should resemble yours, and you should be able to figure out how to mend yours. Personally, I think it would be easier to replace the whole unit.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :rotfl: That's the funniest thing.
It's just like those ones, yes. Not like the one to the right in the gallery. I'm going to have a look but am worried I'll end up costing myself a new door (am a bit handless). Might get a handyman. Thanks for your help
