Having paid tax and national insurance for over 35 years was upset today when someone told me that despite that Im being made redundant I will not be able to claim job seekers because Im married?!
My hubby earns 22,000k we have still a sizeable mortgage and supporting grown up but sadly also unemployed children as best we can so money in short supply.

Hi lindylops,
Welcome to MSE.
If you have paid sufficient NI conts over the past two years you will qualify for conts based JSA. You can claim this for up to six months.Gone ... or have I?0 -
If your children are grown but unemployed are they claiming JSA? If you're having problems they should be contributing to the upkeep of the home not the other way around.
The above poster is correct from what you say you'll be entitled to contributions based JSA for up to six months, you need to ring ASAP."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0 -

Unfortuately there are a lot of people out there who give out advice with very little actual knowledge behind it. The answer is to check on info you are given and this is an excellent site on which to do so.
:T to all the people who come on here and talk sense and there are a lot of them.
Anyway getting back to your question as dmg24 says you should be entitled to JSA (C) for 6 months. What your (well meaning?) advisor probably meant was that you would not be entitled to JSA (IB) as you are living with a partner. The DWP are up to date enough to treat married and unmarried couples the same as each other these days!0
