very good point about access to the concealed cistern, probs more hassle than its worth!

i quite like the idea of the false wall just above sink height, i would have enough room to do that either side without the need for a concealed cistern, so that might be the way to go.

there is a window which runs to 2 inches from the right hand wall, so the idea of a complete false wall down one side is out the window (excuse the pun). i'll have to check how high that window is from the ground, but it could work well with mid-height false walls. i suppose i could even build some glass shelving or a cupbard into this if i wanted

I have a slab of marble on top of the false wall that hides the cistern so no problems with access. Same colour as the tiles and makes a nice shelf.

do you only need access from above for a concealed cistern? i thought you needed front access as well

I could be wrong but my plumber told me that if I had any problems access is from top.

.In theory, you should only need access from the top, however if you have a leak from the bottom where the water leaves the cistern to enter the pan, or where the water supply enters the cistern then you have a bl00dy awkward job to get at it from above!

re the other problem (the window). Don't know how much room you have either end of the bath, but my solution would be to just drop the height of the false wall to the level of the bath, where it reaches the bath (if that makes sense!) and use this lower shelf to put stuff like bubble bath etc on. You could also put one of those small glass bathroom shelves (that I moaned about in my earlier post) in this recess halfway between the lower level and the top level of your concealed wall. Should look nice.

nice idea about lowering the false wall in line with the bath, never thought about that.
