Student loans for Bankrupts?

Hi,
A dear friend asked me this question. I don't know the answer, I suggested they contact the local Uni but I hope someone here may help.
"Can you apply and receive a student loan if your not credit worthy and will possibly be bankrupted in the near future"?
So are student loan applicants credit checked?
Many thanks.

One last point, if a student is made bankrupt nothing happens to the student loan the student will still owe it and repay it in the normal way.
And watch if bankrupcy forces the student to drop out, then he has to make sure he doesnt claim loans he's no-longer entitled to as having those recalled then might be painful.0
