Iphone case has cracked

I bought an Iphone in November last year and also bought the case recommended to me by the salesperson. It's a Power Support Air Jacket case and simply clicks onto the back of the phone leaving the screen exposed.
Every couple of days I have to take the case off to remove any dust/dirts/bits that have gathered between the case & the phone. However, last week, the case cracked at the bottom when I took it off. It was only a hairline crack about 5mm long but now has grown to about 12mm. The case now doesn't clip on as tightly as it should. The phone has never been dropped or mishandled in any way.
I've just been to the Apple store who told me that as it's been longer than 28 days I need to contact the manufacturer. This immediately sounded wrong and I explained that the (US) manufacturer has got nothing to do with this as I bought the case from Apple but still didn't get anywhere.
Can anyone tell me where I stand? The item was "fit for purpose" at the time of sale but, due to it's nature, it needs to be re-fitted regularly to prevent damage to the phone and it is this that has resulted in the crack. Should I just forget it and buy a new case!?!
