Solicitor Costs - Selling Only

Hi all,

I have done a search for this, but seem to find conflicting replies.

I'm about to market my property chain free (will be renting for a short before committing to buy again, and will hopefully help a quicker sale etc). I need to know if this is a good deal basically.......

The company I am ordering the HIP from (called Fridays Property Lawyers?) want to charge around £500 inc VAT and disbursements for the conveyancing work - this is actually £677 inc VAT, but they refund the cost of the HIP if they do both?

Can I get a solicitor for significantly less than £500, or is it worth doing everything in the same place?

Try phoning around a few locally. A solicitor that you can talk to will be better than one of these companies that cover the whole country but where you can never talk to the same person twice. If you are selling, it might be important to you to be kept informed and for someone to update you and your estate agent as the matter progresses.

Depends on the area you love in and the value of your property.

We just paid £620 + VAT for the conveyancing (just to sell) and £290 for the HIP (arranged through the Solicitors).

As a previous poster has said, best thing it to get some recommendations about local solicitors, then ring round a few to get quotes. Recommendations are always a good start, because cheapest is not always best... (but most expensive is not always fastest and most efficient either...).

    Good luck.

  • Thanks for your input guys.

Turns out that the lady who handled my purchase of this property is still around (I thought she'd retired - hence the question!) and she did an excellent job last time around, so she has the job.

Not the cheapest (ironically cheaper than the ones I mentioned earlier), but I know I'll be able to speak to her, and she'll do a good job.
