Can anyone give me some advice. My 75 year old mother needs new TV, nice, reliable, 24-28" but not all singing, dancing. She uses free view box. Does she need digital, what should we be looking for. I don't know much about TV's.
Thank sure someone will help.

Any standard crt tv will work. Just take your pick: http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/453.html or you maybe better off looking either on ebay, but you have to take into consideration the cost of delivery. Or more closer to home, your local paper as more and more people are upgrading to lcd\plasma, so they are looking for a "home" for their old TV's. Here's a tip for you, under such circumstances ask the person you are buying from why they are getting rid of their tv. If they say they are upgrading, offer them a small amount of money. Or ask them what's the lowest they will accept. The idea being that people don't really want a dirty-great big tv hanging around their living room when they have a nice-shiny-new tv coming. It just makes the place look untidy.
If you want to buy "new" but cheap, then try your local supermarket. Both Asda and Tesco's are reportedly selling 28" TV's at the £120 - 200 mark. You could try looking at https://www.tesco.com under the "Electricals" section, but the best deals are to be had in-store apparantly.
HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Hi
I quite like Toshiba, nice reliable and usually excellent picture. You don't say how much you want to spend, so have a look here, she can get a 28" widescreen, for £200, not a bad price.

Salli. I bought my 82yrs old mother in law (sounds similar to your mom) a 28" from Argos just after Christmas for £90. Works great and, of course' it doesn't need to be digital because the freeview box takes care of all that. I see similar ones in the co-op etc for even less. Sainsburys also do similar ones.
There is great value out there now for 'old fashioned' tv's because the money for manufacturers is with flatscreen etc and so they are selling off old stock.
For peace of mind you might look out for an extended warranty.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Thanks for all replies, she's thinking of spending around £200, but ideally would like a black surround to match her decor.if i had known then what i know now0

She'd have a far better chance if she painted her room silver because virtually all of the tv's are.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
