Abbey online banking

I am thinking of getting an overdraft account at Abbey for my girlfriend so she can take advantage of the 0% facility to get rid of a large overdraft at Halifax then pay it off over the 12 months.

I was wondering what their online banking is like, is it easy to use and does it track withdrawls, debit card payments etc quickly?

Thanks in advance

  • There online banking is superb i have had no problems with it. It updates instantly and is very rarely down. You can even view it on your phone if need be.

It tracks payment instantly with regards to the balance. I have only ever noticed that Cash deposits and withdrawls are reported straight away. I think this is the same with most online banking systems.

But its 10/10 for ease of use! I would recommend though that if your wanting to apply for an overdraft do it over the phone as the internet banking wont give you an instant decision.

    Hope this helps

I have not been with Abbey for very long, but I was impressed with their online statements which include alot of detail. Sadly there is a limit on the number of transactions that they show online.

Bill payments are very easy to manage and edit, unlike First Direct who do not let you control these.

Sadly there is no secure email facility and you have to use your visa card number to login, a username would much more friendlier.

I moved to Abbey from HSBC about a year ago and was seriously disappointed with their internet banking, compared to HSBC's and it took me 6 requests (4 telephone, 2 in branch) to get the two separate codes required to log in in the first place! It will only show about 3 months worth of transactions and the information about Direct Debits isn't really sufficient. It's a bit Ronseal internet banking, but not especially impressive I'm afraid!

Got to say I'm kind of surprised (but pleased) to read the positive comments about Abbey online banking. Ever since I started working for Abbey 5 years ago I've felt our online banking let us down compared to HSBC (the only other bank I've used online). However our updated online banking is due to launch this year, and I've just signed up for the employee pilot so I'll let you know how it looks as soon as I get on!

I have a username that I use instead of my card number to log on?

Regular account though, which may be different to yours?
