What are you looking to print on the go?

If it were me, i really wouldnt buy HP, theyre not all that bad printers etc, and they can be cheap to buy, but the cost of all the separate ink cartridges is extortionate, you will spend double the cost of the printer in one refill in some cases, so look for a printer and ask the cost of ink cartridges, and also how many prints they do on one refill on high quality, if they dont know then google it.

i think i heard the gadget show did a test on this but with bigger printers, maybe if you youtube it it will give you an idea of what makes of printers do the best?

What sort of A4 prints? Colour, B&W, photos, text?

    Basically there are 2.

The HP and the Canon. Both no where near as good as they used to be as they are much bigger and heavier. I have an old Canon BJC-55 which weighs less than a 1kg is very small and has a great internal rechargeable battery built in.

Canon in their wisdom have 'improved' on this model with the Pixma's which weigh over twice as much, twice the size, slower for one page total run up time. Real refinement of technology eh?

Anyway the HP470 and Canon Pixma 100 are pretty much the same size and weight and can do the same thing. Both have battery options/versions. The Canon is more expensive but as stated will soon recoup that in running costs as the cartridges are much cheaper (hence why the HP is more 'subsidised' initially by HP) Portable printers have small cartridges so you will be replacing quite often.

If you want ultimate in portability and have plenty to spend, Pentax make something called the Pocketjet. These tiny rechargeable battery powered units weight only 500grams, they print (B&W) on thermal paper you have to carry but don't need ink. Various specifications from about £300 to £550!!!

Can you tell I have 'been there' lately on this one? LOL

Can anyone recommend a small printer?
It doesn't have to be portable just small in size and can print both b&w and colour A4 size.
