Think that i can help here.

Firstly, i don't think that pass plus will save you 50% on insurance. It is more like 10-15% and it is also worth noting that it is only in effect for 2 years.

I spoke to Norwich Union myself and it was definitely 48% off 3rd party f & t. He gave me both price with pass plus and without. Also a friend has put her son through pass plus and he saved the same amount. I am pretty sure my information is correct.
    If I had known then what I know now . . .

My sister, whos 20, was having problems finding somebody to insure her, many companies were quoting her £700-£800 for 3rd party insurance. My dad suggested she tried the insurance company he uses but not to mention his name. They quoted her £480 fully comp.

Try going onto https://www.confused.com for a quote, they say they "go to 94% of car insurers on the net" I tried them and I found a quote for half what I paid last year! >:(

Also another site that I found useful was http://www.find.co.uk/insurance/Car_Insurance/ and I just scrolled through doing quotes on all the sites to find the best deal! It takes forever but I found I saved loads by doing it!

I'm 22 and my insurance is only just starting to drop from the £600 mark and last year was the first year I could afford to go fully comp!

http://www.insureyourmotor.com/ thats who I went through for my first years insurance as they were the cheapest!

I did the past plus exam which reduced my premium for the first year apparently (although in comparison to what my friends were paying it seemed about the same!) but it only counts for the first year of insurance.

Good luck, hope that helps! ;D

could you not put your son on as second driver and you as the first even if you haven`t got a licence it might be worth getting a provisional just to do that my sons mate and his mother did that but she is not intending to learn to drive i think it worked out a lot cheaper than what he was quoted on his own (why dont insurance companies bump up the excess for young drivers instead of the premium!) :-/ :-/

    1) your sons mate might as well cancel his insurance policy and drive without insurance as the policy he has obtained (fraudulently) wont be valid if he makes a claim

    2) In relation to your second statement about excesses it wouldnt make hardly any difference to the premiums no matter what excess you loaded young drivers with as the claims some of these young drivers make are in tens of thousands and that is what insurers are trying to protect themselves against.

When i first started to drive a couple of years ago i paid £1200 for a pug 106 for TPFT, doing the pass plus would have saved me about £100 off that but seeing that the pass plus course costs over £100 it wasnt worth me doing it!

theres certain restrictions if a young driver were to buy a car brand new with free insurance like you have to be over a certain age, the best way is to put him on you insurance and when got enough money he can get his own insurance
