advice on regulated investments isnt allowed. Discussion is fine though.

What govt bonds and in what type of investment (collective or direct forms)? Why just Govt and not other areas of fixed interest securities? What is the objective and timescale and does it fit your risk profile?

2500 grand? As in £2,500,000? If you have that much to spare, you should probably spend some money getting professional advice...

If you mean gilts then my personal opinion is they don't currently look like a good investment opportunity with the possible exception of index linked. The reasoning being I think Quantitative Easing has pushed the price artificially high, the yields are currently low and as I believe inflation will make an apearance as soon as the recession is over those yields will start to look even worse.
