I ordered the new car!!
First and foremost - many thanks to Burbs for his advice from the original thread here.
I've decided after much thought and discussions with the OH, that now I have gained a promotion and save £3000pa coming out the company car scheme that I should get a lease car.
There were many models to choose for but none quite so appealing as the Mazda RX-8!!
Original quotes to lease ranged from £500pm to £330pm, until Burbs advised me to speak to Ling at lingscars.com
She managed to secure me the exact model and colour I wanted today at only £270pm!! A massive saving of £60pm over the next best quote and almost halve of some other quotes.
Now not everyone will see this as moneysaving as I am still spending £270pm, but we have discussed this thoroughly and have decided since I'm doing well - got a good pay rise as well - and it'll be my only chance to have a sports car since we'll be more settled in the future, life isn't all about scrimping & scrounging so let's enjoy ourselves for a couple of years.
We will of course still be keeping a tight reign on the cash!!

Nice car! You are joking, it's like sex on wheels!
I don't normaly give two hoots about cars but this has got my foot tingling. I wonder what my kids and grandson would say if I arrived home in one? Not long before I retire, should I go mad and get one in Red?0 -

Brilliant mate, well done. Glad you got there in the end. Now make sure you have fun with it!!!0 -
I've just been considering the pros and cons of leasing. I have a saab that's just cost me a fortune in repairs and is on its last legs for sure. I have been looking at the leasing options through my business for a new saab and if I think it works out cheaper to lease - kindof!
If I buy second hand with part exchange my new car will cost at least £4000 minimum for a high mileage. If I lease for 2 years a brand new saab is going to cost me £6500 and I can claim back the VAT. I know I won't own it at the end but a second hand one probably wouldn't be worth much anyway at the end of 2 years. Factoring in the cost of repairs (guaranteed necessary in my experience) on a second hand over 2 years against a brand new lease car - I'm thinking I'm better off overall with the lease.
Am I right? comments appreciated -0 -

Check this thread, there is a big discussion on there involving me amaongst others. Leasing is the way ahead for you in my opinion, its basically a quick fix, you get to own a new car for a couple of years, hand it back and move onto the next.0 -
Do you know the WORST thing about Rx8 ?????
You can't order it in Lightning Yellow!!
This was the launch promoted colour, wordwide, more or less & was only available for a short run, over here.
Do a Google image search for yellow Rx8 & you'll see some stunning pictures!!
Which did you choose??
& I hope you've got the accessory brochure, too - you'll spend forever choosing the li'l add-ons, to make it 'yours'!! & if the dealer has some of these parts in stock, he'll be keen to 'deal' for you, 'cos they're not exactly going to have a huge demand, with such a specialist vehicle!!
ENJOY!!

Good choice  probably one of the only cars I'd swap my FTO for.
One tip - keep an eye on the oil levels as they are known to use a fair whack of it.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

And I believe that with rotary engines there is something like "If you start it, wait for it to fully warm up before switching it off again, otherwise it won't start without calling a mechanic"...
Lovely car though - I want one!0 -
When we bought our new car we looked into leasing but couldn't bring ourselves to pay £xxx per month then not even own it in the end without paying a huge lump sum. But each to their own
. In the end we cashed in a few things here and there and raised the cash. Then we realised we had enough to pay the mortgage. We thought sod it lets have some fun!!
Oh by the way we got a Nissan 350Z.....now that's sex on wheels!!!
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
