Computing running awful......help please.

I am currently on Blueyonder 4MB Broadband. But sometimes it is as slow as dial up....I get a lot of 'pages not found' etc. I have a firewall and anti spyware stuff, and run a virus scan every day.

I am using a Belkin wireless router.... and my laptop runs fast...no problems. But the wireless connection shows a poor signal strength more often than not....like now...and speed is 54.0bps.

Can anybody please advise me what my problem could be......any answers would be most appreciated. :D

p.s. Not too technical eh! novice here!

sorry can't be of direct help to you but would point you in the direction of this website http://www.adslguide.org.uk/ which i have found helpful in the past. On the left hand side you will find a link to message boards which cover loads of issues and there is even one for Blueyonder subscribers to share problems.

If the connection status is poor, your problems are that you are two far away from the router, if your router supports it try turning on g nitro as this boosts the coverage area your wireless network has although it could make it easier to break into as a wider area is covered. If you cannot do this try bring then router and the reciever closer together.

  • Try running the tests on pcpitstop.com. It will check everything and let you know of potential problems and how to fix them.

    Thanks for the replies! :D

I am using Ad aware SE and Spybot.....I have Zone alarm (basic) and AVG anti virus.
My broadband modem sits under the tv, just below the Belkin wireless......my pc is across the room about 8 foot away.

Can you tell me what g nitro is please? Will run pcpitstop and post results here. Its frustrating having broadband and having your computer run like a bag of you know what! :D
  • I had a similar problem with a laptop which didn't have centrino wireless built-in. Ended up having to get a new wireless PCMCIA card, after that it was absolutely fine - full signal right round the house.
