"Printer is Offline" - no it isn't!

Hi
I have an HP9595 laptop running Vista HP, connected to a Canon MP610 printer.
Yesterday, pressing "Print" brought the message "printer is offline". So I unticked that box, and re-sent the print job; I got the same message, and thus into an endless loop. I stopped and re-started the Print Spooler, but to no effect.
Any ideas please? - it's driving me insane!

Hi,

have you tried switching off the printer and disconnecting usb for minute or two.

Try switching off your firewall, if you have one, i think this is the most common cause.

Do you have more than one printer installed on your computer? Another printer may be selected as the one to use. Make sure the right one is selected when the Print window comes up. I've done it before!! How silly did I feel when I realised :-)

I had a similar problem with and HP All in one yesterday. Although the little tick was next to the printer icon in the "Printers and Faxes" setting folder I noticed it was greyed out. Sorted by rebooted the pc.

Thanks for your replies - I have tried some or all of them in the past, but will keep them for the next time.
Yesterday I got home from work and attempted, without touching anything except the print button, to print the document which had been so frustratingly denied me earlier by the printer - and it worked straightaway! God knows why...
