Ok I refuse to use Nationwide as they are the worst bank I've ever dealt with (totally incompetent)
What other options do I have?0 -

Any bank you believe to be competent.
You haven't dealt with Abbey.....0 -

Yes but you've already said that using a competent bank is more important than cost.0 -

Indeed. OP, seriously, you're going on a long trip and I assume you'll want to make a good few withdrawals on your travels. If you're really not willing to put past experiences behind you and get a Nationwide FlexAccount you're going to have to accept that you'll be hit fairly hard with charges - there really are no other decent options. Bear in mind also that with any other bank you're going have to give them a fairly specific itinerary of your travels so their fraud departments don't automatically put a block on your account - Nationwide at least expects people to want to get at their money and doesn't block overseas transactions unless you ask it to or they're particularly strange.0 -
Well I am trying nationwide, but their application process is a disaster, I was told it would be quicker if I did it in branch, I go in and am told a bank letter isn't acceptable as proof of address so I go in today with a statement, and am told they can't open me a cash card account in the branch and I have to post off the form, so I'm given the form, go home and fill it out, then realise nowhere on the forms or attached info does it say where to send it, then took 45 mins on the phone to get that address.0

Hehe, now that does sound a bit inept!
I suggest you fill in the form at home, read carefully what it says about documents, and take everything in to a branch, preferably one of the bigger ones in a town centre. Say you've done everything and are happy just to leave it with them - they'll take it, process it in your absence, then phone you when it's all done. Or at least that's what they've done before.0 -
Well he checked my ID in the branch and said I won't need it again and to post off the form as they can't do anything with it in the branch. So I've no idea how the post people know my ID has been checked.0
