full memory

I have a HP Compaq 6720 laptop & I keep getting constant memory full messages. I have tried the usual emptying the temp files, deleting unused programs & ccleaner - anybody have any suggestions how I can improve the memory?

Reduce the amount of programs loaded at any one time.

To use HijackThis, download the file and extract it to a directory on your hard drive called c:\HijackThis. Then navigate to that directory and double-click on the hijackthis.exe file. When the program is started click on the Scan button and then the Save Log button to create a log of your information.

Paste the contents of the saved file here.

Are you talking about running out of hard disk space, or running out of RAM?

Thanks to you both for your replies. The warning is for hard disc space. I recently purchased 1gb memory chip to add to the 1gb already installed but my computer doesn't seem to recognise it despite it being matched to my machine.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Backup files to discs (CD or DVD) to create space

Might still be an idea to run hijack so we can see if theres anything running that shouldnt be (Might be backing itself up and using more room all the time)

You might have an infected computer

How do you know that the computer doesn't recognise the memory? Do you put it in and it beeps and/or refuses to boot?

If the machine does boot with the new memory in, then the chances are that it's been install with no problems. In any case, in Windows XP go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance (you won't see this if you're have classic view enabled) > System. At the bottom it will say how much RAM you have.

It could be you have an onboard graphic controller, which uses some of the system memory. This could be as little as 16mb or possibly as much as 128mb.
