Anyone advise on how to work a Smeg oven???

New house has built-in double oven made by Smeg. I'm struggling a bit with the controls - there are 2 knobs for each oven, one for temperature and one with very confusing symbols - some obviously mean fan oven or defrost setting but most I haven't a clue about!!

Please help!

Google for the manual - you just need the model number and the make. Most manuals are available on line these days and Smeg are a good make.

If all else fails - ask Lister or Kryton ;)

I have one of these, and, to be honest, the instruction book isn't much good (but the cooker is fantastic).

The two-dial thing is a bit confusing (DH can't get used to it after 2 years). The zigzag line on the settings dial is the grill; you need to turn the temperature dial to maximum and the settings dial to the zigzag until the light goes out, then reduce the temperature to suit. And you must keep the door closed while you're grilling.
The other thing to know is that the heat elements are in the top and bottom of each oven, (not the sides or back, like most UK ovens), so be careful not to spill anything on the floor of the oven or it will weld itself to the oven.
The other settings are 'top heat only' (one horizontal line); 'top and bottom' heat (two lines); Fan oven (large oven only, which is two lines plus a fan); Grill plus top heat (one zigzag and one horizontal line - haven't a clue what this is for).

The manual doesn't give examples of what each setting is for, (I imagine you'd use the top heat bit if you wanted to brown something that was already cooked - but the grill would do the same?).
