Do you have a budget in mind? It makes it easier for recommendations.
I could give you a load of printers from £60-£600!0 -
hello nickmack, I am thinking that I will probably have to spend around £300 and upwards. Am not really sure as the only experience I have of printers that produce quality prints was the printer which we had in work. It was an OKI and it was leased but I was lead to believe the reason it was leased was because it would have been very expensive to buy. Certainly the reproduction was very good.0

Take a look here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BEY89O/202-4979714-5728659
I have the previous model and it prints superb photos and good quality text too.
It will also print straight from your cameras memory card and will print directly onto printable CDs.0 -
If you're budget is around £300, then you can go for some of the best inkjets about.
djohn200uk's link is to the Epson R340, but I would say for about £215, you can get the R800. It's been out around a year now, but it still exceeds nearly all other inkjets for photo quality printing. If you do a search on the net, you'll find it's consistently praised in reviews.0 -
thanks Nickmack and Djohn for your help and I will certainly look at these printers. Do you think injet is the best option or would laser produce better quality and if so would I be looking a big jump in money. If I sound daft here, please excuse as my knowledge of printers is very limited.0

For home use stick with an inkjet.
I buy 4 PC Magazines each month and in most of them the R340 gets a better review for photos than the R800. The only time I would go for the R800 is maybe in an office environment with really heavy use. But you are paying the money, just don't waste it. Saving £100 can buy a lot of ink cartridges.0 -
Colour Lasers can get very expensive. The toners can cost over £100 per colour. These really are for Office use.
Following on from djohn2002uk's comments. The R340 is very good for the price. The R800 is more expensive to buy and run. Generally you get what you pay for with printers.
The R340 would be considered a Mid-range inkjet and the R800 a Premium range geared towards higher use. Check them both out, there's plenty of reviews and specs on the net and see what you think.
Another to consider at the higher end is the HP Photosmart 8450. The cost should be less than £200 and it again delivers excellent quality. I actually prefer HP as a manufacturer, mostly for the reason that it's what most of my inkjet and laser printers have been and I've been pleased with them.0 -
 Thanks again for all the help. I certainly dont want to spend any more than I have to. So going to start doing some price checking for the suggested models and see where I can get the best deal.0

Lasers may be more expensive, but the toner lasts a lot longer. If you are going to be spending £100's, they are worth considering.

Personally, I wouldn't spend 100's on an inkjet..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
