I wonder where you stand in relation to the 'banger scrapper for £2k' legislation?

Was initially excited by this till I heard it was for cars registered BEFORE July 1999!

    Very sad now.

Me? Nowhere, I think..the car was taken to salvage and assessed. It is indeed an economic writeoff, given that it'd need a new shell in reality. .I'm going to dig out the purchase invoice of £1700 I paid for it, and give that to them with all the info they're asking for (service record etc).

Doubt I'll get the old girl back now, which is annoying. For £1700, I got an immaculate ex-motability car that I maintained, serviced, polished and ran with little or no issue for 5 years...then someone thwacks it. I was hoping for at least another 3-4 years..it only had 117k on the clocks.

I've seen another Mk3, a 3 door 1.4 litre phase 1, in Vauxhall faded pink for an almighty £495 with 83k on the clock...it's on my list as a possible. Heh. I know tyres are £25 a pop, how the engine works, how to repair everything and so on..it's tempting. :o Tidy up the paint, heatgun the bumpers back to grey, lose the godawful orange pahse 1 indicators..and I could live with it..

We'll see what the weekend wander round the car supermarkets and dealers brings...

An update- I found and put down a deposit on an X plate (2000) Astra MK4 1.6 auto this morning. For £1995 I've got an X reg with 1 owner, FSH, 53k miles, lots of standard fit "toys", delivered to my workplace.

    Quite pleased...:)
