Council Tax

am I right that as a student I will not have to pay council tax? I am thinking of renting a two bedroom property with a friend who is not a student. I have never had to pay bills before! How would this work?

We were told last year that we would be liable for the non-student who lived in the house (he dropped out so couldnt get a certificate). However, I posted them all the certificates I could and havent heard from them since! ^_^

Am I correct then in assuming that you are a student who shared with another person who subsequently dropped out of uni ?

Did you all rent the property on equal terms i.e joint tenants etc ?

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
