Boyfriend's car is probably scrapped, what to do?
My boyfriend has a renault kangoo, 10 years old, he bought it last August for 2.5k. The other week it broke down and was towed home by the RAC, RAC man said it had lost compression. Got it towed by the RAC to a local garage for diagnosis and fixing and they have today said that they think that its the cam shaft, which will mean a new cam belt and to fix that is 1200 quid (+ vat) BUT it might be more if it has damaged any pistons.
We also know that the trasmission has been playing up so we would need to get that fixed too, dont know whats wrong or how much that might cost, plus at the MOT recently it needed new wheel bearings on one of the wheels.
So, he has decided that its not worth getting it fixed due to the costs, but is there any way to get anything for it? would people buy it for scrap? or buy it in the condition its in, knowing that work needs to be done?
its not mobile, the garage is charging 15 pounds a day to store it and we know that the RAC wont bring it back home from the garage.

Put it on ebay, descrobe the condition, for parts, and say buyer collects will need trailer.0

Government is introducing a £2,000 scrappage discount scheme from mid May if he is minded to buy something new, then can trade it in for £2000"How could I have been so mistaken as to trust the experts" - John F Kennedy 19620

He would have to wait until August to do so though, as he has to have owned it for 12 months for the scheme. Maybe the MOT would run out by then ruling it out.0 -
no, the mot was done last month, so that would be a problem, problem would be that he really needs a car now otherwise he cant get to work when we move (hopefully very soon)0
