Would putting the wrong ink catridge in printer ruin it

I got the wrong catridge but it is the correct make -I am tempted to try but wonder if it would damage the printer.

if it's the wrong catridge it will not fit has each cartridge is different for each model eg EPSON Stylus C44 is bifferent to a EPSON Stylus Photo 900
unless it's for a european like a c44ux and c46there or their,one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0
