Notice to Landlord

Hopefully we will be exchanging on 1st May. I haven't given notice to the landlord yet just in case the unthinkable happens and we lose the house:eek: We pay our rent on 12th of the month. Can we give notice on 1st of the month or do we have to give one month's notice from rent day? Doesn't say anything on rent agreement but someone has mentioned to me that this may be the case. Please advise.

Your original AST contract end day will be the same end day each month for monthly renewal regardless of the day you actually pay rent.0

Technically you need to give at least one months notice, to end at the end of a rental period. Your rental period will be from the day after the end of the fixed period until the same day -1 the following month.
eg. Fixed period 14 Jan - 13 Jul.
First periodic period 14 Jul -13 Aug
Second perodic period 14 Aug-13 Sep etc0
