i agree pin...a lot of moaning about those charges which with a bit of thought about your luggage is no big deal

for those who used to carry 20kg in one bag....would have an extra €40 of excees baggage charge are now saving a lot of money

as for what is happening now...i belive ryanair check in staff who cant speak too much english abroad are possibly overlooking the charges...its confusing enough for us to understand!

coming back from spain today...no extral luggage charges even though i carried 7kg over..i booked before 16 march

but thats nothing to go by...sometimes they charge, sometimes they dont

its hit and miss and no big deal anyway

£2.50 or £5...is nothing, the press would have you belive they have inflicted misery and ruined holidays

poor old ryanair get a bad press again...i havent read about the big savings that can be made!!

I agree PIN/YNOT2005, that's the whole ethos of getting something on the cheap. You cut down "the product" (ie the flight) to the bare bones and then charge people for extras. Thus if they want to take 3 changes of clothes per day, or have a 3 course in-flight meal, they pay for it while the rest of us grab a McScum burger at the airport and wear the same clothes for a week !
Like a priceless jewel buried in dark layers of soil and stone, earth radiates her brilliant beauty into the caverns of space and time.

Stately trees seem to brush the deep blue sky. Clouds billow to form magestic peaks. The songs of birds fill the air creating symphony upon symphony

My toddler has to pay full fare and as such gets a 20kg allowance. Under this new system he cannot combine his allowance with his mums in a big 40kg suitcase. They now have to have two seperate suitcases of 20kg each.

We are just trying to work out how to build his little 2 year old muscles to pull a suitcase along OR train the wife to pull 2 smaller cases a pram and hand luggage and him.

hi all dont know why you are all moaning about ryanair ,if you dont like the service dont use them,I have used them a few times and going again on tuesday with them ,had no problem as yet touch wood, but I have got 4 nights in 4 star hotel + my flights for £180 for 2 people that H/B ,couldnt book this with BA or B/Mid, as for the luggage charge I think anyone who has been charged by Ryanair in the past would be glad to pay these charges as the way I see it you can save a lot of money the new way as they are giving you an extra 10 kg ,so that is if there are 4 people traveling you get an extra 40 kg,at £5 pre kg the old way that would be £200 more for that extra now you pay £20 ,I think we all make out of this.As I have said in another place I tryed to book my summer holiday for 5 Adults with a leading tour firm and was told around £3500 ,using the Budget airline got the same holiday for £1200 and that was to the same appt so come on give them a break because if we dont have them airtravel will be so expensive and the working class family will suffer and have to holiday at home in the great british summer weather

I'm travelling on 17th but booked it ages ago. Does this mean I will have to pay or is it just new bookings?

I will let you know. I booked on 14 FEb and I fly out 3 April. I intend to kick up a fuss and see what happens. For the record, the new rules are : Max 20k per person PLUS 10k Hand Baggage. The hand baggage is free, but the luggage is £5 per bag even if under 20k. AND it is each way. So 2 people with one bag each will cost extra £20!

What is the big deal about this? Airline fuel costs lots of money, more luggage, heavy plane, meaning more fuel required. Also less baggage means quicker turn around. Less hold baggage have to employ less people to offload etc.

Basically they are cutting down on their overheads. You want cheap tickets, well this is how they keep them cheap.

No-one is asking you to take lots of luggage to put in hold. If you want to avoid the charge, don't take check in luggage.
Don't know if you are fully aware of the new rules. We are not talking of EXTRA luggage. If you and partner take 1 suitcase each, even if it weighs 10k, you will be charged £5 each way for EACH person - so £20 extra!

AND, even if you are under 20k, you will pay £5 for each bag, EACH way, EACH person!

Is it not £2.50 if you pay when you book?

  • Hiya guys this is my first ever post so appologies if i'm treading on anyones toes here. I travelled last weekend (24th - 27th) with RyanAir to Girona (Barcelona) and had booked my flights back in January. I came under the previous 15kg rules and assume that was because I had booked well before the 16th March.
Hope this is of some use.
