I tried Howdens the other week but got nowhere as they insisted that it's trade only.

I got my kitchen from Howdens and yes it is trade only. Good value and seems good quality but to be honest no better than I've seen at Wickes/IKEA/B&Q etc. In fact I really like the style of the IKEA ones as they're a bit more modern it seems to me

I got my kitchen from wickes and cannot fault them, they still sell the same model.

Delivery was spot on, everything was checked off before they left the kitchen so there were no bits missing, we damaged one panel and they sent another via courier free of charge.

Bit more expensive than IKEA but we went back to them about four times to change our spec before we ordered and no one got annoyed, they just understood that we were trying to save money. Top Class.

I love my ikea kitchen. Fitted it with my dad and it only took 2 days (small kitchen though). Found it much easier to put together than the previous ones i have fitted (B&Q and DoItAll). Cheaper too.

Howdens and MFI are the same firm (same owners). I have a Howdens account and was getting my kitchen from them but then priced it all up at MFI and came off over a £1000 better off!

Have a look at Howdens by all means and open a trade account with them but also price it all up at MFI. BTW Howdens were going to give me the max discount they could so it's not as if I was being overcharged!

    Hi,

I bought my kitchen doors from B&Q but I got the counter top from Ikea. It was an absolute bargain at £10/m for a granite effect and still looks great 2 years on.

They also have lots of other very nice kitchen accessories such as plate rack which hangs on the wall above the sink

I normally HATE Ikea things as they always seem to cheap and tacky but kitchens is one thing they do well.

In my previous house I installed an IKEA kitchen. Friends have used MFI etc and not been impressed. I didn't like their designs and still don't. Builder friend (fitted loads of other kitchens) was initially sceptical but changed his mind when he handled the units and began hanging the carcases. He was very impressed by the quality of both the units and the fittings (door hinges & drawer runners). I didn't bother using any wood glue at the dowel points, don't see the point, when the unit is screwed together and effectively "locked in". Then again I've been assembling IKEA furniture for a good few years and never had a unit fail. As far as work tops go I agree with a previous poster, the colour/style choice from IKEA is poor can't comment on their quality though.
If you do go for IKEA be prepared for lots of packages. I had 90 something. You will need somewhere to store them and a suitable area for assembly. Also its not really a one person job unless you are installing floor units only.
Best of luck with your project.

    yours
