There have been a number of threads on this subject in the past year (enter the single word reverse in the search field - search titles only - search the Home phones forum and you'll get 10 or so hits).
IIRC, the end result was 'not allowed in the UK due to Data Protection laws.'
As a point of interest, I entered a USA number into Google this morning and identified the subscriber (a company in Texas, as it happens) in less than a second.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I think my best option will be to phone the number!!0 -
I entered 2143573797 and got 2 commercial directory and one residential directory hits (both the same by the look of it - see HERE - but that doesn't work for UK numbers unless the number is on the internet for some other reason (e.g. in a firm's listing in a business directory).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Google can be pretty good at finding business numbers if the company has a website or is on an approved suppliers list somewhere. You do have to try splitting the number up with spaces to get a match (and use the " !!). eg: 01233502088 also try as "01233 502088" "01233 502 088" or even "0123 350 2088" be creative!!
The other way is to sign up to a free "free evening/weekend calls" dialling plan (like Primus) then call the number in the evening or the weekend. Costs nothing!!0
