Mobile and Travel Insurance Deal

Hello all

I followed a few threads looking at mobile phone insurance.

After being pickpocketed, I wanted to get some cover but wasn't very satisfied with the policies available. A few people said to check home insurance or what you bank offered.

I also need new travel insurance. I usually go with the Insure&Go family deal on Money Supermarket recommended on this website.

This led me to look at the bank deals and I am very tempted with the Co-operative Privilege Account.

£8.50 a month is £102 a year and gives:

Worldwide family travel insurance, provided by AXA Travel Insurance
Unlike some policies, our insurance cover also includes personal belongings, scuba diving, golf and winter sports.

Mobile Phone insurance, provided by Lifestyle Services Group
Insure up to 4 handsets to the value of £600 including VAT per phone so your family in your household can also benefit.

There is another account at £12 including breakdown cover. Sorry, not able to add a link yet

The price is as good as I can find including winter sports and the fact you can also insure multiple mobile phones is even better.

I'm waiting for the catch. Can anyone see anything wrong with this account or the policies or got any better solutions to meet my multiple insurance needs?

If not, hope MSE will adopt this as a good recommended option.

Regards

Derek

    The catches are
a)Axa are not the greatest Travel Insurer
    b) You could buy annual travel insurance for a much cheaper premium than that
    c) You could cover your mobile phone on your Home Contents for a much lower premium than that and it would probably provide better cover. In fact you may find your Contents Insurance already includes cover for your mobile phone.

Its not a great idea buying a bank account on the basis of the "Freebies" the cost of which are built into the cost anyway. I think Martin (MSE) has published articles on the types of accounts which you should be able to find by doing a search of MSE.

Read about Axa from some posters here

dacouch has some great advice too on this thread - I have great admiration for this poster (and I work in travel insurance in Florida dealing with most UK insurers) - Be carefull, Axa seem to have good policies but their claims service has a lot to desire and very often deny or at least "stretch out" the claims procedure.

I guessed it was Axa when I read your post...

If you have problems with Axa after providing the right evidence etc try writing to Jessica at the Telegraph. She sorts out readers financial problems and frequently sorts out Axa Travel Claims (She has a few!).
