I recently treated myself to a lunch bag from Robert Dyas for 8.99. The following day I saw a brand new one in the charity shop for £3! It has a zip compartment with a sturdy sandwich box. I had to buy it at that price. Also I have a terrible habit of losing things.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Putting a lunch bag in the wash sounds like a good idea. I never thought of that. I used to wipe ours out with a damp cloth but I was never sure I'd got all the crumbs out of the seams so I switched to boxes.
The advantage of lunchboxes (despite the fact that they are quite brittle) is that they are cheap so you can get a new one as the next fad comes in. It seems very important to have the right lunchbox0 -

These look Brilliant kunekune, thanks for the link, mini ice packs look good too. My DH takes a normal lunch box to work in his bag but quite often doesn't get round to eating his sanwiches and just leaves them there all day getting warm and eats them the following day, :eek:so a thermospot on his lunch box might be exactly what he needs. Thanks all.0

We use bags as it's easier to squash the food flasks/ soup flasks in plus for older ones the plain ones are ok.
Edited to say: Just looked at the concentrate website and they are lovely - but they suggest putting nuts in one of the pots. Is there a school in the country that still allows nuts????“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Probably not, LOL. But we use them during the school term when the kids have school lunch, and certainly nuts go in them then!Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

Can you really put lunch bags in the washing machine? It didn't say so on the label!
What type of wash, and what kind of detergent? My daughter only got a new one before last half term, and although I wipe it out every day, it's still all yukky in the corners.0 -
I put my daughter's lunch bag in the wash every weekend. I do a 30 half load quick wash with no detergent, and it comes out fine.0

What I put in the washing machine is the neoprene bags that the lunchboxes go into. I think the boxes themselves are dishwasher safe but I prefer not to put plastics in cos if they don't dry it's a big pain.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
