Bought DVD Recorder - picture rolling/ghosting

Hello,
I recently purchased a Daewoo DHR8100p dvd recorder. I also have a Panasonic tv and a Thomson digibox. I have connected them all together and got it working but when I have the dvd recorder switched on the sound is poor and I can see transparent rippling through the picture, when I record anything to either dvd or harddrive it's even worse. I was not expecting this and thought that the recorded picture would be a lot more stable than a vcr. I think I have all the scarts etc (when I press my tv/av button on my remote AV1 is sky and AV2 is the dvd recorder) in the right place but something which is puzzling me is if I switch off the dvd recorder I can see sky on AV2, so sky is on AV1 and AV2 and surely that isn't right?
I have taken a picture of a diagram I have drawn to show you the connections I have. I have labelled the scart sockets exactly as they are labelled on the equipment. I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks

I'd tempted to switch it so Digibox VCR scart goes to AV2 on TV, TV scart on Digibox to AV2/Decoder on DVD recorder, AV1 DVD rec to AV1 on TV and see if it's any better.
When you record anything make sure the DVD recocrder is set to AV2
It's most likely 2 scart signals fighting over priority.0 -
Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I've set it up as you suggested and I can't see the rolling anymore but every channel through the dvd recorder is sky. I've done an auto setup scan and it can't find any terrestrial channels at all. I've got all my terrestrial channels and sky as I would access them through my tv remote control but if I try and select a channel through the dvd recorder all I am getting is sky.0 -

Surely if you can get all the channels through your DVD via Sky then that is better as it is a digital picture, so better quality in recording, or am I missing something obvious (probably knowing me :~) )These are the Good 'ol Days just wait and see!0 -
Yeah but if I left it like that then I wouldn't be able to tape say BBC1 and still watch sky because I'd have the BBC1 going through sky. Whereas before I could tape a terrestrial channel on the dvd recorder and still watch sky.0

It seems that sky has the priority feed into the dvd recorder whilst your sky box is on via the scart cable. I have looked at you drawing, how have you got the RF cables positioned ?
What happens if you turn sky off, can you get you terrestrial channels?0 -
I haven't moved any RF cables and I could access all the channels before with my scart setup on the drawing so how can moving a few scarts change it so dramatically?0

If I turn sky off the terrestrial channels are there, so the only way I can tune terrestrial channels into the dvdr is to have sky switched off and if I switch off sky I don't have a feed to be able to tune in sky and thefeore I don't have the option to record sky. Arrgh!0 -
In my search for perfection, lol I've just remembered a post I read somewhere a couple of days ago that mentioned if you turn of 'scart control' in your digibox system setup it stops interference with machines. Anyway I've switched it to off and all is working fine. Does it matter that the scart control is off, will it affect sky at all - does it have a purpose if it was turned on previous to getting a dvd recorder?0
-
It seems you have solved your interference problem, but as I dont have sky...I know nothing about it at all. I have Freeview.
I would think that scart control would refer to say, when you switch on sky your TV would display it automatically via the scart lead connection.....but I could be wrong.0 -
IIRC scart control is where one of the pins (pin 8?) in the scart connection is set high to show that data is coming from the scart. This then causes TVs etc. to switch over as they then know that the scart is active. It can cause some issues, as you found out, as the recorder would be informed that AV2 was now active and trying to switch from that channel would then cause it to immediatley switch back.
The Sky appearing on AV1 and AV2 of the TV when you had the recorder in standby with your original wiring is down to the recorder automatically routing AV2 in to AV1 out when in standby - most (all?) do this. They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.0
