Advice from Citizens Advice, Trading Standards or Shelter

I am doing some, up to date, homework for one of my family who is involved in housing issues. At one time the CAB were the ones to go to for housing advice but reading this board I see Shelters name often cropping up. Trading Standards name often comes up as well.
So I was wondering of others experiences, good or bad, in contacting any of these three organisations.
If posters kept the board up to date with eventual outcomes to their problems we would know but one frustration of offering advice is that many seem to dissappear once they have been told what to do

I was evicted, during problems with mis information from my council following a divorce. I went to CAB for help and was told by my advisor that I actually knew more than she did. From what I've seen they cover a wide range of issues where as Shelter are centred on housing. I only had a few brief chats with them before resolving the situation myself. From personal experience if it was a housing situation I would definitely approach Shelter first, but if you aren't aware of them and went to CAB first then they would direct you to them for help anyway.Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.

Depends, to a surprisingly large degree on who you actually happen to see, that day at whichever particular CaB/Shelter/Trading Standards place you end up.
All 3 can be brilliant.
All 3 have off days/cases...
CaB & Shelter are charities that do an outstanding job on not enough money and get insufficient thanks & credit. I for one feel grateful I live in a country where we have the luxury of CaB & Shelter..
Cheers!

As shelter are a charity concerned only with housing issues, then I would have thought they would be the best bet.
I've never heard of anybody with housing issues using trading standards, I have to confess. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

With this being a home buying, selling as well as renting forum there has been numerous posters given the advice to contact TS even on renting issues. I can hardly recall any follow ups from those who have been given the advice. To hear back as to how they have got on would really hlep others.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build.
