Richer Sounds

On 22 Oct 02 i made a purchase of a multi region Sony DAVS500 home cinema kit for £414.85, inclusive of the 5 year extended guarantee from Richer Sounds website. Since that time the Unit has been back on 3 separate occasions for repair. Each time with the same fault (when watching a DVD after about an hour the dvd will skip/freeze/block and becomes unwatchable for 24 hours). The problem has started again!!

I do not wish to send the dvd player back for repair anymore as i know the dvd will fail again and this will more than likely be after my guarantee has expired!

What are my options with regards to obtaining a working system?

Read the terms of the guarantee and see if you can get a replacement machine. I've always found Richer Sounds to be excellent.

Check the web to see if there is an inherent fault for your model number. I remember reading a while back something about DVD players where they could drift out of focus due to overheating ... I think it might have been a Sony.

I've recently had an LG player fail with the same problem. A local repair shop told me it was beyond economic repair. LG didn't want to know as it was over 12 months since purchase.

Richer Sounds are generally very good. It might be worth choosing a replacement then ask them to exchange for that. If all else fails an email to Julian Richer should do the trick.

I really don't know what i want!! I know i don't want the machine repaired and i would like a replacement. But..... it was a complete home cinema system and i have bought speaker stands for the front speakers and wall mounted the rear ones, i really don't want to have to dismantle the the whole thing.

What would be a reasonable solution? Reckon i could just get a new dvd player and just reconnect the exisiting speakers?

    I don't know........!!!
