Co-op cashminder account questions.

Just a quick question to those of you who have the above type of account.

On the 27th of this month i need to withdraw £1130 from the account to pay for our Bond and rent, unfortunately i dont know how to go about doing it.

This might sound ridiculous but up until last month we had a first direct account, so if we needed to draw a large amount of cash out we just went to any of the HSBC affiliated banks.

What do we do with the co-operative, as far as i know we dont have any localk branches, and with this account we dont even have a cheque book.

Can you not try at a post office?? I can withdraw cash from them with my cashminder account card. Not sure of the amount though

You can only withdraw £250 a day from the post office. You'd need to go into a branch to withdraw £1130 in one go - if you don't have any local to you, take £250 a day out over the next 5 days (gives you just enough time!) - don't think there are any other options I'm afraid.

Thanks for that sieve, I wasn't sure how much you could withdraw, I only ever take out enough for my rent when I go

And there in lies our problem, our account balance at the minute is looking very healthy at approximately £7.00.

I get paid on the 27th of every month, the wife's parents are on holiday for the next 4 weeks so they cant get us the money as they normally would have done.

Just one of those little things that we have overlooked with so much going on:mad:

You could start withdrawing up to your daily limit in advance so you have the cash ready. It seems a few people use bank LaMattress in times like these. You could also ring the co-op and see if they'll do a bankers draft made out to whoever you're paying for the bond etc. Good luck. An expert will be along shortly I'm sure.

  • HI BDB i have had the same problem recently but overcame my problem by withdrawing £250 each day as money was in the account.

I was told by my post office that if i was to need to do it in future that i could call the co-op and they can authorise a one off withdrawal at the post office. The amount =i had to withdraw was £900. I didn't call co-op but maybe worth a try for you :)

What you could do is go into a branch of Barclays and open a cash card account. Say you need the account details urgently and they should open it in branch. Then call coop on the 27th and do a CHAPS transfer to the Barclays account and it should be there same day, and you can then walk into a local Barclays branch and withdraw the £1130 over the counter.

It will need to go by CHAPS though as the faster payments limit for sending from coop accounts is £75 per payment or £100 per day (you'll pay £20 or so for the privilege of using CHAPS) so you might find driving to your nearest branch (even if it is 20 miles or so away) works out cheaper for you. Check first though that you can do a CHAPS over the phone without having to go into a branch - if you can't, it will defeat the whole object of the above.

    There's a branch finder here: http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1193206371038,CFSweb/Page/Bank-CustomerServices

    Cheers,

    S

Lets just say that Barclays really do not like me and i really dont like them either.

I have a solution though....i saw in one of the wife's magazines that i could get up to £1000 cash in hand for a kidney if i live in some wierd part of africa.

Thanks for the branch finder though sieve, closest branch is 29.7 miles away so i may just take a drive up there with the kids and draw the money out.

Well, I wouldn't pay too much attention to what things exist in a magazine. Most of the people writing that stuff make it up, but also have no real idea of what really goes on. It sells magazines is what I am saying, nothing else.
