Unreasonable new ebay buyers !!!!

Aaaaarrrggghhh ! I hate new ebay buyers who think its their job to throw around negative feedback. I've been an ebayer for years and have got feedback of almost 1800 (99.7% postive)

Sold a motherboard to this fella, informed him it had been sent etc. Anyway, 4 days after sending, it still hasnt turned up, so he gives me a negative. Even though I'd already offered him a refund if it didnt show by the end of the week.

Apparently, its my fault for not sending the item recorded delivery !!!! Umm, it all goes in the same post, you just get a signature if Royal Mail dont lose it !!!!!

Anyway, looks like item has been lost in the post which is unfortunate but does happen occasionally. Apparently, its still my fault according to the buyer.

Only way for me to get compensation is to fill in a claim with Royal Mail using the Proof of Postage (I always get this). They then write to the recipient to confirm it hasnt arrived. Whole process takes about 6-8 weeks before they cough up.

I havent given the buyer a refund yet. Something tells me I've got no chance of getting the Royal Mail form returned .

At the moment, I've told him he can haver his refund when he returns the form and Royal Mail stump up. Hope he doesnt realise that he could claim with paypal and force me to refund.

Never had this problem with lost items before. Most people are perfectly reasonable if you keep them informed, and I usually refund immediately with no questions asked. Most people are then most helpful in returning the Royal Mail form so I get compensated.

Not all buyers are asked to complete the RM loss form it is random and infrequent so he might not even be asked.

If this was a complete newbie then I would question whether it is someone doing this maliciously? I have no problems at all with newbies, all my problems have been with buyers who have feedback in the 'teens' as they think they know ti all. A brand new user who has possibly only bought from you would raise my suspicions, do you buy and sell on the same account, have you left any seller a negative recently, could you have annoyed a previous bidder who is doing this maliciously?

Call up buyer details, see if they are correctly registered or whether you recognise the address. If the only feedback they have ever elft is your neg than get on at ebay and get them to remove it as malicious bidding.

I thought the RM sent the form for every compensation case? Why does it take them so long if they only do this for some of them?

This buyer isnt brand new just new-ish. In teens for feedback so I think the problem is what you mentioned... :-(

I always send stuff recorded delivery for my own peace of mind. At least you know the buyer has received it.

As the buyer's left feedback so quickly I bet he's received the package, noticed it's not recorded, and is playing games to try and get the item for nowt.

Recorded is a con, the chances are it is never tracked as delivered anyway. Not one single item I sent recorded in October 2008 ever showed up as delivered, yet they all arrived safely (work related not ebay).

I doubt if it is that, I send around 100 items in a good month and never use recorded for items under £39 and haven't had a loss, real or scam now for around 6 months.

If you have a loss rate as high as 1 : 30 then I suggest you get in touch with Royal mail and ask them to invesigate as you might have issues at your local office. I had a problem several Christmasses ago, started losing lots of outward parcels and some sort of specialist team got in touch and eventually I got extra compensation and a letter saying they had identified an issue with a sorting office which they would deal with.
