I want a Luxury Holiday at Budget Prices - (Who doesn't!!!)

I don't know if anyone here can help or give me any tips but Im trying to arrange a holiday for me, my OH and my 19 year old daughter. Of course, I want champagne at beer prices, like anyone else!

To give you an idea of what we like, we usually go to Majorca as its only a two and a half hour flight and we like it there too. When my kids were younger we went to Thompson Superfamily hotels as it meant we could relax whilst the kids were being entertained.

Last year we went to the Camp De mar Thomson gold hotel in Camp de Mar and really liked it. I managed to get it cheaper than the package price just by booking the hotel, flights etc separately but still on the Thomson website. (It was about £2200 for the 3 of us even though my daughter had her own separate room. This year the same 2 week holiday will be £2500 and with spending money we will need around £3000. What with the credit crunch though we can't afford this.) This sort of hotel suits us because:

a) there are no kids
b) half board so most meals are sorted out
c) yobbos and troublemakers don't tend to go to this sort of hotel

I spend my days lying in the sun and my daughter and OH join in with the organised activities, which suits us all.

How can we get this sort of holiday without paying nearly £3000, including spending money?

Im a nervous sort of person, so need a hotel that is calm and relaxed and not full of party people, but my OH and daughter need activities. We can't go self catering (this isn't always cheaper anyway) because my OH and I can't agree where to eat and end up falling out!!!

Im asking for the impossible, but any hints, tips or ideas will be gratefully received.:p

    Try www.luxurylink.com

This is an auction site where hotels auction off packages, these packages will be from anything to 1 night to 7 and will include some meals, activities and a room upgrade, the only thing is they are usually for 2 people not 3. However there are a numer of very nice villa's starting to come up. You win the auction and then recieve a voucher to use the deal within a certain time frame.

When you go to the site click advanced search, you can then search in Europe, and within a certain budget. The site is all in US Dollars but don't let that put you off, just make sure you get the conversion right!

You haven't said when you want to travel but depending on timing you may be able to get 2 weeks AI in places such as Cuba, Dom Rep, the Red Sea, Kenya or Sri Lanka for that sort of budget. If you choose your hotel with care it doesn't have to be full of 'party people' and you will find that quite a lot of activities are included in an AI package.
  • Look at booking flights from ryanair/easyjet and the hotel from thompson, that what I have done this year and made a large saving even taking transfers into account . You dont say when you are going but with a 19 yr old it will be much cheaper out of the school hols.

You don't say how long you get for your £3k.

A cruise would fit this budget for three people but that would be sharing a cabin.

Me and the gf went to tunisia a couple of years back with TC for a beach break.

Nice hotel, very clean and tidy, nice people. Decent food (on half board).

Not a whole lot to do in the resort except for the lovely pool and awesome beach.

They did organise a number of trips, however, could go out to the desert and ride camels, take a coach to the old star-wars set, go on a party-pirate-ship etc.

Cost us something like £300 each for a week and I think we spent about £3 a day on lunch and that was it.

Would do it again, I think, as the beach was so lovely to relax on (and they'd bring you cocktails to your lounger :)) - although I'll never fly TC again. I'm 6'2" and prefer actually being able to put my feet on the floor when flying for a few hours - seats were so cramped together my knees were up by my chest and my feet were about 6" off the floor. Disgraceful.

We are thinking of Saturday 27th June for 2 weeks. Although we could go on the Thursday or Friday too.

We like the organised activities in the hotel but don't like the trips. We've hired a car in Majorca before and have been everywhere there is to go. Plus, even if we go somewhere new, we find that most trips are a rip-off and we feel we are wasting a day sunbathing and enjoying the sun if we are sat on a bus!!!

Im only 5' and I hate TC planes! They feel cramped even to me! They seem noisier to me too.

Not so grateful that you could be bothered to thank people for, or even acknowledge the suggestions that have been made so far

I don't know where that comment came from. Ive just arrived back home, quickly read the replies and put in a post myself, before preparing lunch for my daughter, myself and a dog! I haven't had chance to thank or anything else.

    That was completely uncalled for.
