Reasonable Home start Offers?

I'm looking for any good deals for my very skint lovely sister. She's travels to Cambridge from London to cover people's shifts on weekends for peanuts and now her little polo won't start!! Think it's the starter motor....so am urgently looking to get her a deal today, if poss. Your experiences are appreciated... ;)

if it is the starter problems and she is stuck and needs to get the car started to take it to a safe place, tell her to wack the starter motor with a hammer or a wooden stick, it should get the car started so she can park it up somewhere safe.

sorry i cant help you out much more,
    Skiddy

thanks skiddy, think I must have explained this wrong, it's parked up okay. Just couldn't get the engine started after a week of no usage, thought the battery might be dead, some kind neighbour tried a jump start....just speculation as to whenther it's the starter....but thanks anyway...;)

Well, if it turns over then it's not the starter. If it was mine I'd check the compression and if that was OK then I'd replace the basic ingnition components.
    Happy chappy
  • Thanks tomstickland, will ask someone to do that...and I thought it was as simple as replacing the battery!! Needs a service soon too.....might try AA deal....

Well, if it's done less than 160K then I'd assume that the compression was fine and just look into battery condition and ignition components.

Little garage on the corner did a bit of work on it..(!), sent my sister out on a test drive.....yep it broke down, noone at the garage to help, she called out a recovery vehicle and will be giving the garage the bill....cheeky bleeders...think I'll get her on the AA for next time...where are all the good garages in North London!!
The endine isn't turning over, so it's probably the alternator....

We lost a car, when it stopped dead with a major fault on last day of our holiday, if it had happened locally, we could have got spare part from scrap yard etc & hubby could have done the work with a little help from friend etc. Ever since this we have always bought breakdown/recovery etc. I haven't looked at Qudco, but buying through Rpoints should save your sis at least £10 off recovery or Tesco clubcard also offer a good deal with RAC.
