Samsung J700 Mobile Phone GPRS query

Have just purchased a Samsung J700 Mobile phone. The problem I have is the GPRS icon stays on, is this costing me and if so how do i switch it off? I have looked through the settings and cannot find where to switch it off. My previous phone a nokia 6500 I was able to change the settings so the GPRS was only on when needed i.e. sending multimedia messages or using WAP.
Any help much appreciated.
